Project Deliverables: How to Create Successful Projects with Them

Large projects fail when people cannot recognize their value and rally behind their purpose. Therefore, breaking down projects into smaller tasks is a great way to get things done, upskill, or prepare for a transition, regardless of the business or industry. All tools are effective when they are well planned, managed, and delivered. As a remote worker, you should be clear about your project goals to set precise, time-sensitive objectives. This article at IT Toolkit discusses how charting process and project deliverables can lead to project success.

Project Deliverables

Project deliverables are the desired results from planning, managing, and completing projects. Therefore, if you want to succeed, you need to be willing to generate deliverables for projects and processes. All stakeholders must agree on the project deliverables formally.

There are two types of deliverables:

  • Project deliverables are established to accomplish the unique goals for specific needs. In short, a project deliverable is the expected project outcome. For instance, your project deliverable can be a new software code or implementing a BYOD (bring your own device).
  • Process deliverables help you strategically plan, manage, or execute projects. There can be multiple process deliverables to achieve a project deliverable. For example, a business use case, statement of work, governance plans, schedules, budgets, and reviews are all process deliverables.

Determine the Crucial Process and Project Deliverables

You must identify the project objectives early on. As the project matures, you will be able to evaluate the required process outcomes. Below is a questionnaire list that will help determine the required project and process deliverable:

Project Deliverable

  • What is the anticipated deliverable’s nature, format, and function?
  • What role does it play in the project’s overarching goal?
  • Do we have the necessary capabilities to make or acquire it?
  • Is it affordable, and how much will it cost?
  • How long will it take to finish (or get) it?
  • Are there any other options for this delivery, and what are the benefits and drawbacks of each?

Process Deliverable

  • What kind of process deliverables will this project require?
  • How long will each necessary deliverable take to produce?
  • What is the deadline for each assignment?
  • What will be the planning, production, and execution responsibilities?
  • Who is responsible for approval and acceptance?
  • What is the plan for updating and maintaining each deliverable?
  • What will the file formats be?
