As a project manager, your task is to estimate project time as accurately as possible to avoid surprises and unrealistic promises. “Be sure to dedicate time to planning upfront in order to minimize the number of adjustments needed down the line and reduce the amount of time spent on unnecessary activities,” says Kelsey.
Project scope is not an estimate by a guaranteed set of deliverables. The scope is often fully refined before a project begins and is understood by all stakeholders to avoid future issues. Determine the cost and time required to fulfill the demands of the scope. Besides, you must continuously monitor scope changes to make necessary adjustments before the project begins.
The project budget indicates the maximum amount you are allowed to spend on a particular project. A client will give you a budget, and as a project manager, you must determine if the work is doable. It is only on rare occasions; clients change the budget of a project. Therefore, be prepared to deliver what you promise while keeping in mind the budget that you agreed upon.
